The Dick Smith Library and the Center for Instructional Innovation at Tarleton State University are part of the university's vision for harnessing the synergistic relationship between the two spaces. The vision seeks to create a campus 'hub' for faculty and student innovation and collaborative spaces at the Dick Smith Library. The first component of creating this synergistic relationship was to create the new offices of the Center for Instructional Innovation on the ground floor of the Dick Smith Library. The Center for Instructional Innovation is a support organization for faculty and students using innovative instructional technology. The development and design of the Dick Smith Library Learning Commons was part of a university vision for intergrating technology and learning in a collaborative environment. The design of the new DSL Learning Commons opens up the existing space, increasing visibility and making the space both more flexible and collaborative.
